We have a new record that's coming out very soon and... (audience cheering and applauding) I said I would never make another record, and I'm just gonna tell you I lied through my teeth.
(audience cheering and applauding) I figured that the way I grew up listening to records was, you know, front to the middle, and then you turned it over, and then you listened to the second side of it.
And then it went to like 8-tracks, and then it went to cassettes.
And you just, you listen to all the songs.
And now, so I might put something out, and it'll be on a new- new music playlist with like Ice Spice and Zach Bryan.
So I'm just like, wha...
I don't know what that means.
So I thought- I thought, you know, my last record was very collaborative.
It felt like a great bookend.
But then lo and behold, when the whole conversation started with AI about how that was going to start impersonating us, and it was also gonna start feeding us truth based on our own algorithms, and what we believe, I started thinking, "Man, I- I can't be quiet."
And the only way I knew was to sit down after my kids went to school with a notepad, and start writing, and singing, and playing, and just getting it out.
And the next thing I knew I had a bunch of songs.
So I called my great friend Mike Elizondo, who's just an incredible badass producer.
And I said, "I got these little screenplays.
Would you just Martin Scorsese them?"
And he did.
I mean he just made these crazy cinematic experiences out of all my songs.
And so, then the next thing I know, I had a- a whole body of work.
So I'm calling it a playlist that's all coming out on the same day.
(audience cheering and applauding) It's a playlist of new Sheryl Crow songs coming out on the same day.

I had a really strange experience with a wonderful young songwriter who played me a demo that she had done, and she had inserted a very famous artist's vocal in to sing her demo.
And I couldn't tell the difference, and it terrified me.
And then right around that time there was so much talk about George Carlin, and how somebody had inserted their jokes and he had like a- I mean the guy's been dead since 2006.
And it really started to terrify me.
And so I wrote a song about it because I feel like the thing that will separate us from the ever-looming presence of AI is the fact that we have souls, we have empathy, we have compassion.

This record... Talk amongst yourselves.
♪ This record started off with me doing a bunch of work on myself, as we all do, when we get in our forties.
(audience laughing) And I was out jogging one day, and I- I kept thinking about this- this last couple of years of really digging deep and how much this song kept coming back to me.
It was called "Digging in the Dirt."
It's a Peter Gabriel song.
It's so good, I wish I would've written it.
Anyway, and I kept thinking about this guy, Mike Elizondo, who I've known for 20 years, 25 years maybe.
He was a young guy.
Met him in LA.
He was the programmer for Dr. Dre and Eminem.
I mean, we could not have been on different trajectories, except for I just loved him.
And I've always, I mean really, for the most part of my career, I've produced myself because I know what I want to hear in my head.
Well, I had these songs and I was like, "I don't wanna hear what I do and- "but I want to do 'Digging in the Dirt' "'cause I feel like it is such an illustration of what I was going through and what I'd been through."
And I kept thinking about Mike.
And so I'm out jogging, and one day I just was like, "Oh, forget it.
I'm gonna call him."
So I called him.
I was like, "We have to do 'Digging in the Dirt.'
We just have to do it."
And he's like, "Okay, let's do it."
So we did eventually do the song after we completed the entire record.
Anyway, all that to say, we sent it to Peter Gabriel, and he sent it back to us with his voice on it, which for me was full circle because it was just affirmation that the reality is we- we all do work on ourselves.
And the one great thing is that we find ourselves in nature.
And that's what the song means for me, is digging in the dirt.
It's like you dig through all the roots, and all the muck, and you always come up, you know, blooming or blossoming- blossoming into something awesome.
So this is called "Digging in the Dirt."
And I'd like to bring Peter Gabriel up, but he's not here, so... Right?
(audience cheering and applauding) Alright, we're gonna do a song for you.
This is the very first- first big moment.
I was in Paris, and it was two o'clock in the morning, and my phone rings and this guy goes, "Hello, Sheryl.
It's Mick Jagger."
And I was like, "Not funny," thinking it was my band.
And then it turns out it was.
And so he invited me to come sing with the Rolling Stones.
And this is the song we did.
So we're gonna do it for you.
