I'’’M TRACE THIS WEEK ON STAR GAZERS WE'’’RE GOING TO FIND THE COOLEST BIRD IN THE SKIES CYGNUS THE SWAN.
YARP!
EARTH SWANS HISS, BUT THIS ONE SPARKLES.
HIT THE DARKNESS AT 11PM LOOK TOWARDS THE EAST THERE YOU'’’LL SEE THE STARS OF THE SUMMER TRIANGLE.
LOOK FOR DENEB, WHICH MARKS THE TAIL OF THE CROSS-SHAPED CYGNUS CONSTELLATION.
IMAGINE IT FLYING RIGHT INTO THE SUMMER TRIANGLE!
IF IT GETS DARK ENOUGH WHERE YOU ARE, YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO SEE THE BAND OF THE MILKY WAY FLOWING ACROSS CYGGIES'’’ CHEST.
CYGNUS IS ANCIENT, BUT HAS MODERN SIGNIFICANCE TOO.
IN THIS PATCH OF SKY BETWEEN DENEB AND VEGA NASA'’’S KEPLER TELESCOPE FOUND HUNDREDS OF EXOPLANETS.
SOME OF THOSE PLANETS ARE IN HABITABLE ZONES AROUND THEIR STARS, MEANING THEY ORBIT AT A DISTANCE WHERE LIQUID WATER COULD EXIST ON THEIR SURFACE.
IT MAY BE JUST ONE SWAN ACTUALLY, BUT IT'’’S A SHORTCUT TO SO MUCH MORE!
KEEP LOOKIN'’’ UP!
