Got it out of some guy's basement.
It had been there for years.
I thought it might be an Indian trunk.
APPRAISER: We see a fair amount of these on the ROADSHOW.
It is Southeast Asian, but it's made to look old.
When you look at this great copper verdigris on the front of it, someone's put a treatment on it to age it very quickly.
And also this hardware, that, while it's made to look really old, it's newer and kind of more rushed.
And then really, the giveaway is, when we open up the lid and look inside, you can see the circular saw marks across it, and then all of this is stained, made to look older.
So what we have here is a Southeast Asian tropical hardwood iron-bound trunk, late 20th century--made within the last 50 years.
In the right showroom or store, I'd expect somebody to sell it for around about $500.
